Students collect different pictures of the object with silent e ending sounds from magazines. Students get to make a mini book and glue pictures they have collected. They will write the words in the bottom of the pictures.
Materials:
Cut, folded, and stapled 8 pages of paper into a book.
Magazines
scicorrs
glue
This is a good activity to be done in pairs, small groups or whole class.
If we are working with younger students or early English language learners then they would only glue the pictures and make the book. While if these are normal first or second grade students then they have to write a sentence with the words associated with that picture. While the students will disabilities could be helped in cutting the pictures or gluing it on the paper. In order to accommodate students with disabilities this activity can be changed with teacher providing pictures that student glue to the book that already have the names printed on it.
Activity Two:
WORD SORTS: Have students divide a sheet of paper in half lengthwise and then
make two categories: short vowels and long vowels. List the following words on the board
and have them sort the words into the correct categories. Or put the words on reusable
index cards and have students take turns sorting the words at a learning center.
